Using a flasher that I had, the lights come on, but won't flash. I thought maybe bad flasher unit, so purchased a new flasher. With the new flasher the bulbs hardly even light up. You have to look real close to see that there is actually some light there and still no flash. Put old flasher in, and the lights are bright, but no flash. Do you think the new flasher is bad? I have everything grounded that I can think of. The turn signal switch is an old push button KD 723. I bought a couple of new ones but they flashed way too fast.
So, I went to the junkyard and found a 6-V flasher in an Army AD truck. It worked perfectly for a long time until I switched to 12-v.

1948 3/4-Ton 5-Window Flatbed Chevrolet 34 Years. Now with a '61 261, 848 head, Rochester Monojet carb, SM420 4-speed, 4.10 rear, dual reservoir MC, Bendix up front, 235/85R16 tires, 12-volt w/alternator, electric wipers and a modern radio in the glove box.

So you need two bulbs with rather heavy filaments.
