Well ... after 26 years of running this site, I think I have finally heard the Mother of all dumb questions. Do we really need to answer "Would you all appreciate a keg of some adult beverage" ??? Reunion this weekend and it should be more like the Home Coming this year.
Wrenching, BBQ and maybe a few cold ones. One big difference, we will have our women there to fetch for us.

I was there last year and it rained almost all weekend!
Can’t make it this year. Seems like every time I join the ODSS at and event, it rains?

Hey Don, Seriously? What rain? Not a drop on me last year, although I do leave the I do depart before midnight as nothing good happens after midnight! Is that when you got rained on and left the comfortability of your wet disgusting air mattress, tent environment that even your own kin would not vouch for your mediocre inspection. Did you actually pass inspection in the morning rounds? V/r. Nick

Yeah, I don't remember the rain, either. I *do* remember a VERY rainy Winchester ... but that was a very long time ago ... I think it was the same weekend of burning firetrucks ... huddled masses under awnings ... and some very green patches of grass that persist to this day ...

After reading through these varied comments, I have one reply (or suggestion) to add for the question that Jim asked. If it is possible, I think a large pressurized container of cold Rolling Rock would be a supreme addition to our camp !! It is one of my favorite American brews and I will gladly toss in some funding to help accomplish the task, no matter what brand appears! However, John is correct when he said cold.....

And between your friends you made last year and the one's you've attained with your "truck heaven" outing you won't have to beg for any $ to pay for it. Question is what rules does organizers of the yearly Winchester ATHS enforce regarding kegs? John, Billy, chime in please? V/r, Nick

Unfortunately, the chapter does not condone the use of alcoholic beverages at the event. However, they have in the past let some indulgent of said beverages but on a smaller scale. This is not a Stovebolt sponsored event so we must adhere to the rules put forth!

I'll just bring my own flavors of my preferred liquid substances, along with a cup to conceal my obvious desire to break the rules. About the 5th year of attending events at the big Hershey show, my friend Sam (the crazy bearded fellow that came with me last year), decided to read the rules for the Hershey event. Since the spaces were in his name, he thought he should start "acting like a responsible person" and pointed out all the rule we were breaking. I gave him the correct response and just told him I didn't see that list of rules, you should say the same thing in the event of being confronted, and we will just move the stack of beer boxes to a spot that's out of sight and hopefully off everyone's mind ! The first stop we always made when arriving in Hershey, PA was ALWAYS the big Warehouse/store full of nothing but Beer, Wine, and ice !!


Jim, I think that's why we camp on the outside of the fence in Winchester! So we are only bending or modifying the rules instead of just breaking them . Just a technical thought or a simple solution.

I'll be arriving around mid day Thursday. My Camper will need a spot in the Bolter area. Any need for bringing fire wood ? Do we still have a source of campfire wood in the show area?

At first I did not think I could make this event, but now there is a slight chance I may be able to help out with some evening cold beverages.
I will not go into why I will not be dog sitting, but I have a some hope for a road trip east.

Hey Don, I guess you can bring one of those mechanical rain contraptions used by testers to determine leakage on trucks and set it up over yourself/show vehicle. Why? No rain forecasted & you can't bring it with you. Hey Jim, scrap building wood is better cause no one can question you regarding firewood brought from outside the area, which may contain invasive critters, even though your from VA. Thanks. The invasive critters will be torched. Sounds like there is scrap building wood available ? We can get wood I'm sure. Last year, we got just a little rain over night or a really heavy layer of dew. I'm not sure which one it was but it made it easy for me to wipe down a black truck for a show shine !

Well it looks like I'll be missing another Stovebolt event this yearn due to border lock downs .
Maybe next year , I'll be watching for pictures !

Jim - A roof truss manufacture firm near my work has a bin which they fill with scrap building wood for anyone desiring it. i'll check the bin this week & hope to bring some scrap building wood for the camp fire. V/r, Nick

Plans came together this afternoon! Mike, Freyja and I spent a very pleasant afternoon getting ole 25 ready to haul Me, Freyja, Dempsey (seen in one of the photos) and Charlie to Winchester Thursday.

So all you naysayers who earlier wanted to denigrate Rocinante (the Peterbolt) for being such a dirty bird may now apply your labiums to mike's and my gluteus maximi (oh what the heck, to Freyja's as well!)



So yeah, while it may be merely just another ... Peterbilt (gasp!) ... dance with the one who brung ya!

The truck looks great but it also looks like Mike pointed the hose in the wrong direction a couple times.

It was a tad warm out. Should have seen the truck before almost a gallon of acid wash. Those tanks were slowly starting to match the frame, black. That was the last of the hot weather. Everybody needs to quit saying the "R" word. Hey Billy, keep my campin spot ready. Ill be parkin in it this year. And a spot in the power outlet for my inverter so I don't lose my fridge. Also, no Pat and Mary. But Josh is coming with his motorhome.

Never did like that Roache word! Good call on that Mike!!

Mike -- I have a feeling we will be washing it again before Thursday ...

Well, the closer we get the more it looks like the early arrivals are going to have to deal with a little rain. Nothing like Winchester '09 or '10. I cant remember the exact year but it was beyond wet. From what I see, once we get past Thursday it should be fairly decent.

I, for one of those, who sleep on mother earth, unlike those pampered souls that have those mobile 5-star resorts, already put my arrival off a day, due to the forecast!

As the Great J Crosby Milliman once (or twice) said, "suck it up buttercup"! It wouldn't be a truck show without trains and a little rain! Heck, Ill be a sport and not even use the AC

Cold front and rain hitting mid Missouri right now. I will not be attending this year, so you can't blame the rain on me!

I was waiting until after spending a week at a Bluegrass music festival last week before deciding if I was going to be able to make Winchester this year. Now that I'm back, I can say with absolute certainty, that I don't know if I'm going to make it or not .

I'm thinking I'll be able to get there to have a cold one with you guys at some point, but I think I'm done camping for a little while. We had plenty of rain last week. Hope to see you there, and John's new Pbuilt!

Mike Roache, Pat and I got Dempsey, Charlie and a Gator ready to roll this evening. We hope to be on the road before Noon on Thursday.

Victor -- It's not new and it's not mine (it's Pat's), but it *is* a Peterbilt. It's registered for the show, too.

Looks like splendid weather from beginning to end here in the Shenandoah Valley. I’m working hard to try to get some things accomplished so I can get up there.

I owe Jim Schimdt an apology......I'm in Winchester and the AC is indeed on.....
A tad on the humid side as it were. Hit rain about 15 minutes from the house and never stopped. Oh and when I went to unload the 50 the brake peddle went to the floor. Too wet and rainy to crawl underneath right now so I think a sammich is in order.
Victor, Fri-Sun should be beautiful. Hope to see you and George too!

Oh and if you get here before Friday mid day, some sort of waterproof foot attire would be prudent if you plan on walking in the grass. She’s a bit tall and wet!

I intended to leave tomorrow, unfortunately work is getting in the way. Ultimately, I wll be making a day trip Friday.
