soon i will be taking delivery of a 51 gmc /laverne 500 gpm 500 gal tank fire truck. i dont know what all needs to be done to this rig when i get it but i was directed to this site by another member. pic's available at this site.

thanks don, i too am a fireman. i dont know if its a Q or not. i know where to get some if its not. as for gear, there is some on it. i have a lovely collection of brass that is gleaming(after lots of polishing) ready to go on it.

i like front mount trucks, their the best when it comes to drafting. lay in, pull up to the edge, connect and CHARGE IT.

i also like the trucks regardless of makes that has the cab style like you have. where the cab just flares into the back of the truck.

check out ebay they have some awesum looking vintage trucks up on the block. the miller beer truck is awesum!!!

51Ashton, let me add a welcome here to the Stovebolt Page and particularly, Big Bolts.

Our leader, John, gave us this little corner of the Stovebolt Garage where we can gather and mull over things that are special to the bigger trucks--like fire trucks, grain haulers and such.

There are a number of fellers on here who have real good knowledge and expertise at fixin' these beauties, so any question you might have is always welcome. Especially, since the rest of us will, no doubt, learn something too.

If you want, when you have a real specific question about electrical items, the engine, or some such other thing, go ahead a post it in The Electrical Bay, for instance, but all questions are welcome here in Big Bolt, anyway.

If you need parts, or end up wantin' to sell some parts, be sure to do that in the Swap Meet section of the Garage.

We all love any stovebolt truck, but somehow the Big Bolts (and I'm expectin' to get in a heap of trouble for this!) are just better than the rest, especially COE's.

Great looking truck!! I've always liked firetrucks--maybe someday I'll find myself one.

thanks to everyone for welcoming me. i always wanted a fire truck. i was looking for the macks, seagraves and american lafrance open cabs. they are so beautiful when restored. from the late 40's to the early 60's. two big problems with those types. parts and a mechanic that knows how to work on them. try going go to a parts store and ask for an oil filter for a 57 mack 707cu in with a gas engine.

they look at you funny ,like you just came from the funny farm. then say "mack didnt make a gas engine". but they did and it was only for the fire service until they went all diesel.

thats when i decided to look for a detriot truck. i think i made a smart choice there. that is when i saw this beaut, that i had past up for months.
then i found the oldgmctruck.com website and all the great links which lead me to here by accident.
then i realized i really did step in sh*t with all the resources that are available.

i love going to fireman parades to see what "old " beautiful looking trucks that showed up. not only do i look forward to taking ashton to parades. but also going to truck shows to see all the other nice trucks out of detroit. never thought i would want to do that on a nice sunny weekend.
