Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 56 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 56 | hello everyone, have a 1952 gmc . new motor rebuilt carb and new gas tank ans all accesaries like gen and fuel pump. first year ran fine drove a total 500 miles this year it quit in town tank said half fuel but inline gas filter was empty. so got some gas and she drove home. filled it up. two weeks later start it in garage to leave it quites . same thing. took fuel pump off bought new oneagain and she runs. next day got 100 feet from drive way it quit fuel filter empty.has anyone ever had a lable or something that maybe in the fuel tank and now coming apart. the tank is fuel. im thinking of draining it now and remove new tank. any suggestions would be appreciated | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 7,440 Bolter | | Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 7,440 | I suspect you’re getting cheap reproduction fuel pumps which are notorious for failing.

Remove the fuel lines from the pump.
Get a portable fuel tank (like one for an outboard engine), and connect the inlet side of the pump to this tank.
Connect the outlet side of the tank to a suitable container (in case the pump actually is working).
Remove the high tension wire from the coil.
Now crank the engine for a few seconds to see if the pump works. Even though the tank is new, the sock could have an issue.
Testing ALWAYS is superior to guessing!

If you truly believe "one size fits all," try walking a mile in your spouse's shoes!The Carburetor Shop | | | | | Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 56 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 56 | thank you every one . i dont have the sock it just a hole in bottom for fuel line. carb king i took your advice. and fuel pump worked but in truck it did as well for a few days then stoped. so all lines are clear. i bought same pump that i took out . so just went to check box . in made in china. i was hoping it would be usa. so just in case it a faulty pump. ill get another one from classic trucks and ask to make sure its usa made. im not a fan for supporting china. cam lobe feels good and truck runs finewhen it get gas.im at a lots. right now filter is full of fuel.but im worried to drive it sense it can die today or two days form now .if float stuck up would that prevent fuel filter from filling up. just a thuoght . | | | | | Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 56 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 56 | update. thankyou everone. so appreciated your help. first i made to fuel line from tank to fuel pump and that was not problem. but at least i have a new line. so then removed new fuel pump and got a better pump from usa. problem solved. so glad that usa keeps making good parts . thankyou all | | |
