I have a 1954 Chevy Panel Wagon 3800. It looks have shaped in GMC 270. The front mounting setup looks like a welded in adapter bracket. My issue is that accessing the bolts is not available with the tools I have. As you see in the photos, there are four bolts holding this front mounting system in place. Access is gained through holes that have cut in the front mounting bracket. I can’t get a wrench on them. Any suggestions outside of just sawzalling them off?
With that large piece of welded-in channel iron bracing the center of the crossmember, you won't weaken it by enlarging the holes under the bolts enough to get a universal socket on the nuts. Instead of a squared-off bottom to the holes, try making them semi-circular with a carbide burr on a die grinder, or maybe a small hole saw so you can access the nuts with a socket.
GMC engines are about 2" longer than a Chevy, so the motor mount has to be moved forward. Jerry
