For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 57 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 57 | Hi all,
My truck is still a project and a long ways from being on the road. I had a tire blow out on one of the old 15" split rim wheels. I'm trying to keep this truck as original as possible but want to go away from the split-rims and don't want to invest a lot in limping the split-rims along while I'm working on the truck. I've read a lot of posts about Wheel Vintiques and using trailer wheels but to me it's a must to be able to use the original hubcaps. Just wondering if anyone has sent the centers of their split-rim wheels to have new, drop-center rims installed. If yes, who does that service?
Thanks, Shawn

They would have to be cheaper than having rims made. Mike B | | | | | Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 57 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 57 | Thanks for the reply Mike.
To my knowledge, all that were available for the 3600 3/4 ton trucks were split rims with the 8 hole pattern. I'm pretty sure only the 3100 1/2 tons had one piece rims and they have a 6 hole pattern.

Some have removed the clips and screwed them on modern wheels.

I could have sworn I had read somewhere once about having new rims attached to the original centers. It would have been a long time ago so I must be incorrectly remembering it. I'll have to look into one of the other options.
Thanks again,
Shawn

I believe it was a half ton. Anyways the welds failed on at least one of the rims. Putting clips on the trailer rims seems to be a common method of retaining the original look. | | |
