Just put something like the pan used for baking a loaf of bread under the axle flange to catch the spill. No, borrowing one from the kitchen cabinet IS NOT a good idea! Ask me how I know!

If you do that it puts more oil out there than the seal likes to handle. Especially in hot weatherand on a long trip. I think the service book says OK to be 1/2 inch below the plug hole cold and level,then can expand some.
