I assume I need to pour some gear oil on those bearings after install but stop there. It looks like I do NOT pack them with bearing grease. The shop manual says they get their lubricant from the rear axle.
Sorry for the dump question. I'm just used to packing bearings before install. I appreciate any advice.

Just lube them with gear oil and assemble!

If you'll notice, on most axles, the fill/level plug on axles are slightly above the bottom of the axle tubes. Gear oil may be slow, but eventually, it will make it's way out to the bearing to keep them lubed. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 1,459 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 1,459 | Mike, is this Dana/ Spicer axle of G.M. corp. G.M. used c locks to hold axles in Dana has brg pressed onto axle, flange w 4 bolts hold axle in. In short, Dana has sealed axle bearing. On G.M. axles I line to fill it the jack each side up one at a time to get oil down the tube & out to the bearing, then recheck fluid level with it flat.
