I am considering this 1949 Chevrolet 6400 for a restoration project. I would appreciate any feedback you all might have from these pictures. Planning on checking it out next week. This will be my first project on a truck of this vintage, so I will be coming here for advice, I'm sure. Thank you!
welcome to the site! I bought my 58 from Moses Lake, and my 55 from just across the border in Idaho. My 58 had more rust, mainly from getting real dusty inside and then the dust collecting moisture during the winter.
That looks like it is in pretty good shape, if it was a farm truck all its life, probably low miles. Is the engine sitting in there crooked? the 2nd pic almost makes it look like it, may just be the angle of the shot though.
Looks like a pretty solid and complete truck. It doesn't look like it'll need much in the way of rust repair or body work.
If you could get that flatbed on the truck in the background to put on it, you'd have a complete big bolt.
Looks like it might have had a PTO driven hydraulic setup (maybe for a dump bed?) Also looks like the upper grille panel with the hood latch is missing, but that wouldn't be hard to find.
The group here will help you out as you tackle the project.
Welcome to Stovebolt!

I think you are right in the hood latch being gone. The pics show the hood being held down by a ratchet strap. I will take a look in person next week. Excited for sure and super happy to have experts like all of you to get advice.
Before you lay any money down, make sure the title serial number matches either the engine number stamped next to the distributor or the chassis number found on the cab.
Looks very complete and not molested which is a plus.
I like the Tilt Cab in the background! The Pontiac Wagon looks like the wheelbase was shortened to make it a 2-door...

Make sure the "chassis number on the cab" looks like it has never been removed (no new/clean rivets/screws).
