Hi fellas, looking for some help with identifying a stovebolt in one of my trucks.
I have downloaded several GM casting number lists but can’t find this one.
Cast # 839253
Serial # TR4045370
Any help much appreciated,
Dave

Is the the Canadian Military Pattern (CMP) truck that you have posted about before?

If not, what do you know about the engine?

Canadian or USA?
Chevrolet or GMC?
domestic or military?

Presumably, it is a Stovebolt - is it a high pressure or low pressure engine?
Does it have a 15 bolt head or an 18 bolt head?

This is in an MCP (modified conventional) therefore should be military. Canadian built 1542 Stake Side right hand drive. I don’t know if the engine is original to the truck. I haven’t had the rocker top off so am unsure of head bolts.
Is it not possible to identify solely from the cast and serial numbers?

Been busy with other things the last few months but back trying to positively identify this engine, hoping to ascertain size and year.
I can’t find the cast number listed anywhere - 839253.

I’m fairly sure the serial number starting TR makes it Canadian built, destined for a right hand drive vehicle and the following digits starting with 4 places it as 44 built - anyone able to confirm this?

A few external observations:
Rocker cover secured with 2 nuts on top
Side cover extends over spark plugs
Carter W1 589S carb (I know 216 runs carter, does 235 also or Rochester?)
Low pressure engine (no external oil filter)

My thoughts so far are 216 or pre 54 235, can anyone suggest other things to investigate without tearing into it too much?

Many thanks,
Dave

It's in the link Tim posted above.
Search for TR4 finds:
[T][TR][C][CR]
4020000-4085000?
[216]

R means right hand drive.

Forgive me but I still can’t see it on there, maybe because I’m using a phone. I’ll try and take a look on a computer this week.
Many thanks.
