As I deal with the problem of original motor mounts on my 39 VB truck, I wonder if it is at all possible to raise the engine up front about 3-1/2" to clear the studs on the front timing plate cover... It seems quite a bit of a tilt to do the job... Anyone done this on a daily driver? The rear mounts were completely destroyed ( GM 260869, similar to GM 598097) so, I wonder if the same would apply to the front...
Possibly front studs can be knocked loose for better clearance, rear shouldn't be as difficult. May need to pull trany so engine can be lifted. Good luck

Those studs are firmly in place on the front cover and don't really come off...If the engine has to be lifted for this, the torque tube will have to be disassembled! Darn!!!...
I'd lift the motor, the trans and torque tube can stay pretty much in place. My front motor mount has a metal shield on the top, just make sure you have all the necessary parts that make up this front mount. Maybe check a parts manual or go to 'The Filling Station or Chevs of the 40s to see what they have.
