Others with more knowledge that I will chime in here, but I do know that sometimes trucks were titled with the year they were sold, rather than when they were built. I have no idea if that's your situation or not.
The first few months of 1947 were still the 1946 body style. Bodies were switched to the Advance Design mid year which was a quite common practice back then to get a jump on the competition.

Any pictures of it available. The number on the ID plate tells a lot. Technically there was a 1st series 1946 truck, and a 2nd series 1946 truck. The 2nd series trucks were the ones that were manufactured over into the 1947 model year, until the new body style trucks for 47, were introduced. Although many were titled as 1947 models, Chevrolet still considered them to be 1946 model trucks. That ID number will tell if it's a 1st, or 2nd series ?

Spanky - I don't have a photo of the ID plate but the serial number of the truck is 6PKD3224. Truck manufactured in Oakland, was a farm truck in Ventura before restoration. When I have looked at plates on other Chevy 1946 the plate number seems to correspond to an engine number even though listed as Chassis #. I haven't found info about the plate(s) in the gm heritage site's 1946 truck download. Maybe I am looking in the wrong place or don't understand what I am reading. I am new to all of this.
From what I understand from the seller - the serial number is on the title. Title is said to be clean and the truck is licensed in CA.
Rich's Toys - could very well be that the 1947 came from sale date. I don't know what CA did back then or does now. Seller could not remember why but seems to think manufacture date was April 1947. Maybe that was the sale date that came with the original documentation (if any) that he got when he bought the truck.
Thank for your thoughts. Seller is pretty open to questions - so I will ask if plate still exists.
Mooseman, read my post above. The explanation IS there!

The "PK" in the ID plate number, makes that a 1946 2nd series, 1 1/2 ton, with a 160in., wheelbase. It could have been Titled from that number, or the engine serial number ? I've seen it done both ways. I even owned a 1951 Chevrolet COE, that had both the ID plate number, and the engine serial number on the Title. Regardless, of all this, it's technically a 1946 model, (even though it may have been built in early 47) so says the Chevrolet Master Parts Catalog, no matter what the title says, had you been ordering parts for it at the Dealership back then, it would have had to have been referred to as a 46, for correct parts.

Justhorsnround What you put in your original post is what I said in my original post. (read the second sentence of said post). Please read my response to Mike B below - as I guess I did not make my real question clear in the original post.
Mike B Thanks I had decoded the same info from the serial number. What I don't know is if that is April of 46 or April of 47. I didn't make that question clear in my original post.
Spanky I had previously come across the OS as first design but had forgotten. Thanks. According to Chevys of the 40s the OS was manufactured in 1945 but no year(s) given for PK. My research thus far says OS began in August of 1945 for the 1946 model year. I don't know when the switch to PK happened. The 1946 truck vehicle information kit on gmheritage site was published 5/01/1946 and it shows the PK (second design) model. There is no 1945 vehicle information kit. No help there for actual calendar year of manufacture. Maybe I can find out how many of these trucks were actually made in Oakland. That would be a good indicator ....
BTW, he did send me a pic of the plate and it has the serial# stamped on it that I posted previously. The plate looks to be new - perhaps made from the old plate or he had it restored. It is the number that is on the registration/title.
I guess as long as it has clear/clean title - I should be happy. IMHO the 47 registration makes the truck's lineage confusing. Even though we all know it is a 46 at heart and parts :-)
Thanks again for all your insights and help.

That's definitely a repo. plate. The stamping is nice, and straight, but the letters are shorter than original. You can tell the rivets aren't original also.

That's a 1955.2 or 56 plate that's been modified to include space for the Serial No at the bottom and having the GVW weight left blank for hand stamping. The 265 engine was introduced with the 1955 Second Series and those trucks had a separate Serial Number plate welded to the windshield post with the Data Plate riveted down low on the door post.
Your Hex/Clutch Head Screws would be correct with this 1942-46 plate
