I want it for my C70 the owner said he couldnt down shift it but just why i couldnt get out of him. How are they to shift ? Slip the box out of gear without disengaging the clutch, rev the engine up until you can slip it into the lower gear, and drive on. The Mack Tri-Plex I learned to drive big rigs on had a 5 X 3 setup, and I could go up and down all 15 gears without using the clutch. There's no need to double clutch unless you just enjoy exercising your left leg.

Find out the model number, too.

'37 GMC T-18 w/ DD 4-53T, RTO-610, 6231 aux., '95 GMC running gear, full disc brakes, power steering, 22.5 wheels and tires.
'47 GMC 1 ton w/ 302, NP-540, 4wd, full width Blazer front axle.
'54 GMC 630 w/ 503 gasser, 5 speed, ex fire truck, shortened WB 4', install 8' bed.
'55 GMC 370 w/270, 420 4 speed, grain, dump bed truck from ND. Works OK.

When I upgraded from a chauffer's license to a CDL I didn't bother with the clutch and the examiner marked me off one point for each shift. I had to come back the next day and take the test again and pay the $75 again.

I doubt if the transmissions would survive!

Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 2,168 | So I’m kind of highjacking this as my sm420 acts up like this. I can’t shift OUT of 3rd most of the time with the clutch. I have to have my revs just right, pull it out of gear with no clutch, downshift and carry on. It goes into 3rd beautifully, always. I’m guessing now I have a bad synchronizer? I thought it wouldn’t affect shifting out of a gear, just into a gear. I want to make it easier for others to enjoy the truck.
