When I was with the Sheriffs Dept. Me and a fellow deputy I was assigned the responsibility of putting all the vinyl transfers on the new units. That was years ago. I believe that we used a few drops of dish soap in a spray bottle then filled with water. This allowed me to center and move the transfers then squeegee the bubbles out. On my 54 is this still the same method? Doc.

Yes, that's the way my buddy who does vinyl transfers told me. And what I used when replacing a transfer on my daily driver after some repaint work.

If you're smart enough to take it apart, you darn well better be smart enough to put it back together.

We did it that way with vinyl decals on 1200 gallon tanks on trucks. Theses decals measured 9 feet X 4 feet. They had adhesive on them like one would expect, but could not possibly have been installed without lots of soapy water. We tried the first on dry. It soon became a huge ball of sticky vinyl which we of course spent the rest of the day throwing it at each other.

I’ve used windex on several occasions with great results. My latest was the lettering on my tailgate.
