Hey guys,

I just rebuilt the zenith 228 with electric choke on my 1953 gmc. Now it starts and idles great but boggs on fast acceleration and even back fires. I was thinking accelerator pump but it's all new and looks/works as it should. I did notice that a quick pump on the pedal and the choke slams shut, if I hold the choke open and rev it, no issues. Any ideas on why it's doing that?

Sounds like a piece was reinstalled backwards or incorrectly if the choke slams shut with the pedal pushed. It should open with the pedal. I'm not familiar with the Zenith carbs. Go back over your assembly and check it with your diagrams that came with your rebuild kit.
