Hi everyone and thank you in advance.

I have 1951 Chevy 6400 stake body (2ton) 4 speed transmission.
I want to convert it into a dump bed utilizing parts from the era. I recently found for sale a 1953 Chevy Silverado 3500.

My question is: from the 3500 can I use the pto and everything related to that dump truck (hydraulic pump, etc) and bolt it on to my 6400?

Thank you
Dalton

I believe the GVW of a 6400 is greater than a 3500, correct me if I am wrong, so if you keep the weights within limits you should be OK. Your 420 should drive PTO OK. Get out your scale and verify fit.

The PTO needs to be a SAE 6-Bolt with internal gears to match your existing SM-420. All of the other parts should bolt on as long as the frames are the same width. I'm not familiar with a 1953 Silverado 3500...what trans does it have?

Paul,

It looks like you have two threads going with the same topic, sort of confusing, best to only deal with one thing, we get to see all topics.

I deleted the other one. Mike B is on the right track. The rest of us ... who knows?

If the '51 and '53 both have their original 4 speed transmissions, the PTO will work on either of them.
