I was wondering if a chevy 350 has the same mounting holes for a/c compressor and alt and power steering as a 5.7 vortec also would the pulleys fit a 5.7 vortec. The reason I ask this is because I want to use a 5.7 vortec engine but I need to mount accessorys as low as possible an I can only find brackets for 350 to do that

I think the block is the same through all of those years, the difference between the generation 1 and Vortec is in the heads so the mounting holes on the front of the heads may not line up. There are many serpentine aftermarket mounts available to position accessories in different positions.

Are you asking about the older Vortec or the LS. The Vortec was a Gen 3 SBC built until 97 or 98 and was replaced with the LS. The mounting points on a Vortec are the same as a Gen 1 SBC other than the fuel pump mount. The LT1 version has a front mounted distributor behind the harmonic balancer. Most of these later blocks used serpentine drive belts and aluminum front mounts for the accessories.

I would suggest you look at March Performance or Alan Grove Components, both offer brackets and pulleys as kit or will build to suit. Alan grove offers a lot of unique brackets for low mounted accessories.

I may have found a 1997 5.7 vortec that was rebuilt and truck was wrecked so I wanted to make sure I can get brakets that will keep accessorys as low as possible because the engine will be going in a coe truck and I dont want to lose floor space

Craig is correct, there are many options for brackets. Just be sure you are getting brackets that fit the vortec heads. I built this 350 with vortec heads about 1999 using brackets from "Bills Hot Rod Company". They are the V-belt style low mount brackets for vortec heads. Hope this helps you see what might be available.

did you use a different water pump because the belt on the vortec goes under the water pump pulley and the belts on your engine go on top of the water pump pulley. your water pump is opposite rotation of a vortec or doesnt it matter ?

It matters. Mine was an earlier short block with vortec heads added. If you go with serpentine belt you need the water pump and brackets to match. Just check with your supplier to get the low mount type brackets for your serpentine belt.

I used a short style water pump on my 327 with serpentine pulleys a form March Performance. I'm only showing this just to illustrate what can be done. Talk to your supplier and let them know what your doing , they will be more than happy to help.

i will call some venders on monday to see what they have to say thanks for the sugestions and pictures if anyone one else has pics of low mount accesorys for a 5.7 vortec please post them.

ok thank you I was wondering since the 5.7 vortec has a reverse rotaion pump does the water flow the same way as a normal small block chevy? I quess I will ask the venders when I call.

I talked to a technician at speedway he said you could use a standard rotation small block Chevy water pump on a vortec engine and use vbelts for the accessories. Has anyone ever done this? I could not find any company that sells low mount accessories for 5.7 vortec. The only thing I could find is the front runner set ups that are very expensive.

if your block doesn't have the front mounted Distributor then the low mounts for a Gen 1 Small block should work fine. The only other true difference in the VorTec and Gen 1 is the bolt pattern for the intake manifold and no fuel pump . The heads are and block are drilled the same for accessories. A standard rotation water pump will work fine.
