I would love to see some pictures of the AD design trucks in the stock green colors with the color specified. More specifically with the painted bumpers instead of chrome. Also painted grilles instead of chrome. I'm hoping to see some combinations of those with the green. I think I'm going to paint my 54' green and am looking at one of the factory greens from the AD era. My grille and bumpers are currently painted white which I am going to change. I don't mind the look of the chrome bumpers and grille but the price for a chrome 54' grille is crazy. Plus I kind of like having a truck that is "stock" but one that not a lot of people have. So I think the painted bumpers especially would be neat change to the typical chrome on these trucks. I appreciate any pictures in advance that anyone posts. I'm pretty sure you guys like showing off your trucks so lets see some pictures! Thanks

Adam

Don't know if this was stock but I've always thought tan grill and bumpers would look good with Forester Green, if that's what it was called in 1954. I've got chrome but I'd take tan with the green if I didn't.

Go to the Gallery Page, link in the menu at the top of the page, and scroll through hundreds of AD photos. Posting photos to the forum pages takes up a lot of space and the info you need is already there for you to see.

Thank you for the suggestion but honestly I was already there and didn’t find it to helpful to my question. While there is a lot of trucks in the gallery the only way to see the trucks is to click on each one. And most that I clicked on were either in some type of as found or restoration, weren’t green, didn’t specify a color and most importantly most didn’t have a painted bumper that I’m really interested in seeing. I apologize I didn’t realize that the picture space was an issue in posting in this area. Having not found what I was hoping to find in the gallery that’s why I posted it in this section hoping that fellow members hadn’t posted to the gallery and had more what I was looking for.

Thanks Tim for the link to the colors and codes. I’ve actually been heavily looking at that using color names and codes and doing google searches to try and see actual vehicles with those colors. I’ve found some but not many. I was hoping to tap into this great resource to get some better examples hopefully. That chart is a very valuable tool! Thanks

If anyone has a truck that’s close to what I was asking about please private message me and I can give you my email if you’re willing to share. I’d love to see some trucks like I’m asking. Thank you!

Adam

The bumpers on '52 and '53 AD's (Korean War Era) were painted a color called Anvil Grey, as were the hubcaps. Painted grilles were body color with white or ivory rear grille bars. I think most big bolt bumpers were also painted rather than chrome.

Here's a pic of a Korean War year AD, from back in '53. You can see the painted bumper, hubcaps and (barely) the inner grille bars.

I've seen a sample of a chrome powder coated grille. Looked OK from the 50 ft distance. That might be an option for you.

I wouldn't mind seeing a few either. I'm redoing a '52 and it will be painted grille, painted front bumper....I'm just not to that point of the refinishing yet. My biggest dilemma is deciding a color. I was certain I wanted the Mariner Blue color as it is one of my favorites- but my '52 was the dark green color- Forrester? and now I find myself being drawn to put it back to factory colors. It's not bone stock, so it won't ever be a show truck ( 235, open drive rear end) but still the factory green appeals to me.

Adam,

Is this what you were looking for? Forester Green Truck

It is not a 1954 but may give you some idea.

Truck was ordered from Cullman Motor Company in Cullman, Al. It was delivered along with another 5 window black truck. I personally talked with the orginial owner of the black truck when he was in his 80's and he stated his 5 window cost an additional $35. He also said both trucks came with no rear bumper, only a wooden 2x4 attached. Rear bumpers may have been a dealer option or perhaps Korean War shortages. I purchased this truck in 1996 from the orginal owners son. Prior to that it has been stored in an enclosed barn under cover for 17+ years. As stated, factory paint, interior as delivered except for seat coverings and radio. Under the hood is nearly unchanged and to my knowlege motor untouched. It had 96k mles when purchased and currently 113k miles. One other note, it has as a spare tire what may be an orginial from the factory, Gum Coated Firestone.

If you are looking for original in 54 the grill was the same color as the body. Juniper. The inner grill inner bars are Thistle Gray. The bumpers in 1954 were painted Anvil Gray. No other options for grill inner bars and painted bumper.

I have the grill of my 54 3100 painted white and I see that a lot but I don't think white was a factory option until 55.1.

That's quite the survivor. A guy would have to search far and wide for anything in better shape. Very cool truck. thumbs_up

Papas52, Beautiful truck and a great story! It’s great that you know the history on a 68 year old truck!

Wow Papas52!

What a beautiful survivor. You have a real time capsule there. Thank you for sharing!

Just some randoms throughout the years. one in front of house is from 1996 after hand rubbing compound, 2 times and wax, two coats. Dispite yearly waxing and parked in enclosed garage the paint finish is gradually fading. Age and physical conditions now making waxing vey difficult, but i persist. Still able to drive on close uns though. Thanks for all the comments. I have worked hard over the past 25 years to maintain it. Good story on the radio if interested.

Lived in Cullman from 1995 to 2011, then retired and moved to the country in New Bethel just south of Tuscumbia. Cherokee is a nice town.
