Pull choke 3/4 out pump gas peddle twice while pushIng starter foot knob. It always started. After not starting for a week it would start after about 3 seconds. Now after setting for4 days it cranks way too long. It spins very fast ( 12 volt on six volt double batteries), very good Rochester B no leaks, new butterfly shafts and bushings #58 jet, accelerator pump, power piston and spring etc. After letting it set for two hours after turning it over for 15 seconds it started immediately. On my 42, 216 I have always had to dribble gas into carb. to get it to start right away. What I'm I doing wrong ? Doc. Help, help, I'm stuck in Central Florida and it's finally below 98 degrees, I can work outside.

I solved it with an Airtex E8012S Universal Electric Fuel Pump. This is an inline pump, no separate parallel plumbing required. It allows pretty much unrestricted flow forward while off but prevents backflow. It is also low pressure. I have it hooked up to a push button switch- run it for a few seconds prior to starting the truck if it sat for several days and it starts immediately. I had converted to 12v. If you are 6v you may be able to find something similar. It sounds like the one-way valves on either the inlet or the output side (or both) are letting the gas drain back out of the pump-to-carb line when the truck sits idle for a while. Also, you should pull the choke knob out all the way on a cold start, forget about pumping the gas pedal, and crank the engine until it fires. Then push the choke knob in a little to keep the engine from stalling. Jerry

| | | | Joined: Jul 2018 Posts: 163 Jolly Roger | Jolly Roger Joined: Jul 2018 Posts: 163 | tear down the top half of the carb and make sure all the brass tubes arent broken and make sure all the steel bbs are in the proper placement. i had that issue and it had issues starting because it simply ran too rich.
