Just wondering what a reasonable towing figure would be for my 56 1/2Ton PU. With SBC, TH350, Tranny cooler, 3.79 rearend, Camaro Subframe, if I were to install a Class II or III hitch, could I tow my car trailer and 3500lb load (Farmtrac 270 DTC Tractor) behind me safely?

stopping is more important than how much you can haul. with my 79 ford courier i hauled 3500 pounds plus the trailer weight but it took two blocks to stop. bottom line what are you using for brakes? ron

I would say it could be done reasonably safe with brakes on the trailer that are hooked up and working. I would not want to go very far though.

If in doubt get a bigger truck.

With the Camaro clip you have pasenger car class brakes designed to stop a car that might have weighed 4000 pounds fully loaded. Your truck isn't likely to weigh any more than that, but doesn't weigh much less either.

Add that 3500 pound load and 1500 pounds of trailer, plus anything you put in the bed of the truck, and your cargo weighs nearly twice the truck and twice what your brakes are designed to stop.

So if you have good trailer brakes and keep them in perfect repair you are probably safe. As long as nothing goes wrong. My own solution is to use a 1-ton pickup to pull my car trailer. Something could still fail, but the margin before I'm in trouble is much greater.

It's true. I really don't do anything but browse the Internet looking for trouble...
