Per my 1951 Parts Book;

5.822 Axle Shaft Seal

1937-47 All Utility....rear wheel hub oil seal....3681195*

* NOTE 3681195 not used w/splined type shaft and hub, use 3686530 for spline type.

Hy Lend-Lease 1.5 and guys, I looked at this from the jobber perspective, my old Victor catalogue lists their part number V49904 for the splined type, that translates to National part number 6358 which also translates back to GM part number 3686530. the Victor p/n for the non splined hub is V49799 that translates to National p/n 5850 unfortunately that does not translate back to the other GM p/n that Mike B supplied, but that number may have been superseded, hope that helps.

One more question, Myv46 has a standard rear differential it is not a two-speed. When it says splined the only splines I recall are on the end of the axle shaft where it slides into the diff. Is the shop manual referring to something different? A different type of axle shaft?

The Parts Books list "COMMERCIAL" as being 1/2 thru 1 ton vehicles and "UTILITY" as being 1-1/2 and 2 ton.

Again just to clarify, what is the difference in unsplined and splined hub on these big trucks? Upon checking several websites it seems they only list on part for these grease seals.

3B, so after doing some research, you're correct that GM 3686530 cross's to National 6358, however so does GM 3681195 posted by Mike B. I went to Rockauto and searched both GM seals and both returned to SKF 31870. Went to National's site and used the SKF 31870 which crossed to 6358. So apparently both styles of Hubs use the same seal. I've always thought the research is half the fun working on old stuff.

Thanks
