Anyone out there have information on the old McGurk cam shafts for a 235, or know where I can find it?

Gosh that is a name from the past. Can't help you but it was fun remembering. They were big as I remember.

There are some detailed cam specs of the ones used in the famous 261 article...
1955 Article for Hot Rod Magazine

For the 235, specs would be similar.
Maybe take off 10 points from the 261 duration figures.
Others may have more exact numbers.

Here are some specs of the cam used with 2x1 carbs in the article:

McGurk # 18:
Intake duration 245, .421 lift
Exhaust duration 284, .410 lift


BTW: The 261 for street is best with an exhaust duration no more than 254.
Cams with more duration really only help when going above 3500 rpm, together with more carburetion.

The McGurk name caught my eye on this post. The guy was a genius when it came to Chev/GMC 6's.
As far as getting ahold of one, you might try a search of McGurk on E-bay. Every once in awhile vintage speed equipment shows up there.

"Stroker McGurk"....he was a little before my time, but I didn't think he was a actual person...more of a marketing ploy! Waldo indicates he was flesh and blood.

Frank McGurk was an actual person and one of several Chevrolet six cylinder guru's of the time along with California Bill Fisher and Eddie Edmunds.
Tom, I have some photo copy information on the McGurk cams and I have a McGurk cam. According to the information I have, the McGurk cam I have is a "full race" cam. Someday I intend to build the 62 - 261 I have on an engine stand and use that cam. Let me know if you need the information and I'll get it to you.

atomarc - "Stroker McGurk" was a cartoon character that appeared in the old Hot Rod mags of the late 50's and early 60's. He was always getting into some kinda jam. Frank McGurk was the real deal and designed and sold vintage "6" speed equipment.

Thanks...it's all coming back to me now! I subscribed to Hot Rod Magazine from about 1960 to the mid '70's and remember seeing that cartoon.

Frank McGurk was a 6 cyl. specialist, Stroker McGurk was a cartoon by Tom Medly that appeared in Hot Rod Magazine for many years. They were not related, Stroker always used a flathead Ferd engine, Frank always made 6 cyl. Chevy's and GMC's run good.
