Ok, here I go again, over the last 52 years EVERYTIME I say this is the last I start something else. 1953-3100 with 1954 dog house. Original owner was crashed in 1954. The Chevrolet dealer in St. Cloud, FL asked Granger if he wanted to upgrade to a 54. Therefore I have a split windshield 5 window 54 looking truck. Also therefore I have a 292 which is capable of 235 h.p. I have measured and the 292 is about 2" (+-), shorter. I bet Martin and Jerry have some advice regarding addiction AND is it do able? Whoa is me AD's are an AD-diction. Any one else out there with this type of do able situation I need advice, can't do anything about my habit but what about the truck? Bewildered in Central FL. have a rebuildable 216 but going the other way. Like to lightly hot rod 292. Doc. big_eek

You're asking whether a 292 will fit into a 1947-1955.1 truck? Yes. There will be some modifications necessary depending on what route you go - engine mounts, potentially crossmember, potentially radiator placement, drivetrain potentially depending on whats in that truck (up until 1954 they originally used torque tube/closed drivetrain with hinge type axle perches that dont work with an open drivetrain.

I just finished up this conversion on my 54 and got it running for the first time recently

Thanks for the info Jager, I have a nine inch Ford rear end in it, that will be the only Ford product put into a mild conversion. I have a Borg Warner T-10 cast iron out of a Chevy. I know it seems that everyone asks me why a cast iron T-10. Because it is my all time favorite tranny. Doc.

Find a bellhousing crossmember from a 54 or early 55 truck, and the cast iron V8 type bell housing with the angled motor mounts will bolt onto it. That will handle the back end of the 292, which has the same shape as a V8. An add-on crossmember can be adapted to fit the offset front motor mounts, and you'll have a 4-point mounting for the engine. The cast iron T-10 will hang off the bellhousing, with or without a tailshaft mount. A hotrodded 292 can make some serious torque, especially if you play some games with the intake ports.

THANKYOU, Jerry, I'm kinda excited about this. Is all right to PM you after I get all the parts layed out on the concrete floor?

Sure, no problem! If us old geezers don't pass along whet we've learned over the past 60-something years, it will just go away when we do. Some of it might actually be worth listening to!
