Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2019 Posts: 131 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2019 Posts: 131 | So I went for a ride in the '37 and when I got home I was missing a hub cap. I see a couple of the clips on the wheel have broken off. I ordered some new clips and found a hubcap on e-bay. My question is what's the best way to attach the clips to the wheel? I looked at the "tech tips" and none of the discussions addressed attaching them. Rivets? Bolts? I ground off the old rivet heads and punched them out so I have the original holes Thanks John | | | | | Joined: Mar 2016 Posts: 225 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2016 Posts: 225 | Not sure what a 37 wheel may look like or use (and they may be close to the same as my 51), but...…..
on my 51 original wheels, I used 10-24 r/h machine screws with a nylon locknut......year and a half later, no problems.

This has always been a problem with GM light duty trucks and cars. For the life of me I cannot figure out why they snap off while driving. When we were all kids it was a cheep fix not so now hub caps get a premium price. Let me check if I can find them and I will send you some. Kades51 has a good suggestion. I think the 37 had a 16" , which was called an artillery wheel due to the slots around center. they used the same hardware. Doc.

I spent a year tinkering with this thing to get it running and drivable. Luckily I was able to find one on e-bay. I hope parts aren't fallingl off every time I drive it. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 1,038 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 1,038 | I don't know what kind of wheel '37 Barn find has, but the standard wheel is 16 inch kind of like Advance Design wheels, only with eight slots instead of four. The optional artillery wheel (termed "short spoke disc wheel") is 17 inch, I believe and was for the 1 ton truck. The 3/4 ton had 15 inch wheels which were a bit different than the artillery wheel but was also classified as "short spoke disc wheel"
