Is there a combination of stovebolt parts that could be used to make a "stroker" motor out of my 235? I'm curious about this and was hoping that someone else might know about it, thanks.

Kyle

Someone here is building a stroker 261. It would be the same process. I asked for details, but never received a reply.

Maybe that bolter will reply to this.

It would be nice to get some answers, but now that this post got moved out of the main stream I am not sure that I will. I put it in the "General Truck Talk" forum because I knew the "Hi-Po Shop would yield lower hits and replies...oh well. Thanks guys.

Follow Woogeroo's advice and get a bulletin board account a Inliners International. In the Engines forum, search on "cadillac 261".

I am building a 261 stroker with a built 848 head, stellite hardened exhaust valves, powerglide intake valves. The block is bored .050 over. The crank is offset ground to accomodate 292 rods. The pistons are standard size from a 365 v-8 from a early/mid 80s caddy. We still haven't decided on the cam but I'm leaning toward a clifford mild w/ high lift springs and hardened pushrods. Here is a link with info for your 235. http://www.inliners.org/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=000929 P.S. They are maybe a little low on that price. After all is said and done, I'll be in it for more than that and I'm doing all the fetching, cleaning, prepping, and polishing myself.

BigMac, Thanks for the help. I really appreciate it and am excited about researching this project.

Just out of curiosity, is a 261 an origional motor size or is it what the 235 turns into when you punch it and stroke it?

THANKS!

Kyle

It is all in the bore size. A 261 shares a common crankshaft with 235 engines. And yes the 261 is a orginal motor size.

The motors are different internally in a couple of ways. You can't bore a 235 to the caddy specs without hitting water.

261's have siamesed cylinders to add the extra meat for the bigger bores. Also rumored to be a higher nickel casting. '58-62 blocks have full-flow oil filtration.

After reading the post more carefully and then reading the forum description for the Engine and Driveline Shop, "The place to discuss engine items, rebuilding, updating, swapping engines, trannies, driveshafts and rearends.", it is my opinion that this should go in the Engine and Driveline Shop. I wouldn't call these motors "high performance". Just a bit of a rebuild, update and swap or so to speak. And for you purists, the 261 was available an option for my truck in 1962 and only in 1962. That's part of the reason I'm doing it.
The HIPO shop is supposed to be here for the hot rods and racers. My truck is neither.

The people who "know" hang out here in the hi-po shop, they just don't visit everyday. They wrench a lot or drive their trucks/toys... but when they do stop by, they wander through the hi-po shop to see if they can help out.

That is why I moved it in here.

It might take longer to get a reply, but it will generally be better advice.

In 'general truck' you will get a lot of 'I heard of...' , 'I read about that...', etc.. But generally the guys and gals in the hi-po shop, know what they are talking about, or they can point you to someone who does.

Woogeroo - Thanks for the explanation, I guess it does make more sense to have it in here.

Are you trying for more CI's (over bored) or a longer sroke for more torque. You could go exotic and find a longer rod and use a shorter piston (wrist pin higher in the skirt). This has been done on a few SBC's to get a longer throw. You need to be aware crankshft clearance as well as the rod and bottom of the cylinder walls. I'm sure that someone has done this in the past.
