The truck has been sitting a long time and just got the plugs and wires replaced. This noise is concerning. Anyone know what it is? It's not rhythmic, which you would expect if it were some sort of valve train or piston problem. The motor sounds good. I think the first thing I would do is take the valve cover off and see if there's anything loose under there. It could be something metallic just bouncing around in there. It sounds very light, like a small piece of metal. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2020 Posts: 36 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2020 Posts: 36 | Thank you for the reply. The noise ended up being a bent push rod. It would slowly rotate and the bent part would make contact with the inspection cover. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,795 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,795 | That's a BIG red flag warning about a sticking valve. If you started a sleeping engine without doing a lot of preliminary work, including using a clean gas tank, you've probably got more problems on the way. Varnish and gum from stale gas gets dissolved when fresh gas is added to an old tank, and it ends up in the valve guides. Broken rocker arms and bent valves from contact with the piston tops are other possibilities. Jerry
