| | | | Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 57 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 57 | I am currently in the process of changing the rear motor mount crossmember on my 1951 1 ton for a 1954 1 ton crossmember so that I can mount a 292 and new style bell housing in my truck. When I put the 1954 crossmember in, it doesn’t sit flush on the bottom of the frame rail, it appears that the frame rail on my 1951 is wider than the 1954 frame. I was wondering if someone with a 1954 or 1955 first series 1 ton could measure the bottom width of the frame rail where the rear motor mount crossmember sits.

GMC may be different, but I don't know.

That's the same as the Vehicle Information Kits info. Those dimensions are the same for either '51 or '54.

For example I measured the rear of my frame and it measure 2.405”, I measured near where the rear motor mount is and it measures 2.75”, and I also measure the front which measures 2.36”. GM also changed their part number for the frame in 1954 as there was a change to the rear motor mount. So even though dimension “B” is the same for the 51 and 54 frame, the actual dimension where the motor mount sits could actually be different. Before I start removing material, I want to ensure that my measurements are correct.

I ended up taking measurements from the crossmember, marking the frame and removing a little bit of material on each side until it fit. Thanks again.
