A local listing of a ccp brake kit caught my attention but was curious about the size of rotors everyone has on there kits .I measured the backing plate on the original drum and looks like 12 inches .I have 15 inch aftermarket rims ,white spoke from the mid 80,s.It does not look like there is much room around the original drum so I would think that a 12 inch rotor would fit but not with the Caliper mounted on top. Also the rotors in these kits for a 6 lug original pattern are they a rotor from a newer model truck or car or are they a special rotor only sold by one of the venders for theses old trucks .The kit has the tapered bearings included but no master cylinder .I not sure if I would try to purchase the kit as the asking price is 500 and is more than likely been sitting for a few years.I don’t mind the drum brakes but the opportunity is available to buy local if I can make a deal. Thoughts please.

I believe what you are referring to is one of the original disc conversion kits. From what I remember is that as you stated they used the original hub, generally with the the replacement bearing kit and a spacer. I believe the rotor & caliper is from a 73 up 4x4.
There are so many better kits available now from a host of suppliers that use a one piece rotor and lower profile calipers. I have installed them on TF trucks using the stock 15" wheels and had no clearance problems.
I wouldn't buy that kit. The booster/mc is another issue, I prefer the under floor conversion some like the firewall type.

Thanks I think some of the kits now say they are for up to 1959 so probably are improved . Also I don’t mind the drum brakes but haven’t drove the Truck for a few years ,I really need to get this thing rolling again hopefully for the spring

I have the CPP 5 lug conversion and 15" rims. The rotors are from an early 70s chevelle and calipers from a mid 70s Camaro. The rotor is 11" and I have about an inch clearance between the caliper and the the wheel. 15" rims and a 12" rotor is going to be awfully close.

By the way, my entire kit, which included a master cylinder and booster, was only $600. Take that for what it's worth.

I also converted my 56 to 5 lug front disc brakes but it was 20 years ago and I didn't like the aforementioned disc conversion. In both cases replacement wheels were required. It also requires either having a machine shop re-drill the rear axles to match the front, which I did, or replacing the rear end assembly. The ideal situation is to convert to disc brakes with minimal modifications and still use the stock wheels, hub caps, and not have to mortgage the farm. For a casual driver vehicle, there is nothing wrong with drum brakes that are properly rebuilt and adjusted. They can also be made better with a booster and dual master cylinder.
