I located the serial number on my engine which I was told was a 1955 235 cu in. Is this correct and is it a 1st or 2nd series engine. I bounced around google and didn’t locate it. I attached a picture if I did it right. The serial number is “070I845 F55y” the fourth character is an i not a one

y (actually, it is a Y) = the series Type (size/model of truck)

F55Y
F = Flint, MI engine plant
55 = 1955 (first series, if it is a truck engine)

Second Series 1955 trucks would have had a year code of 255.

Maybe another member knows what the "trailing "y" ("Y") designates as a series Type?

Y means "with Powerglide".

That engine was originally in a car.
It has hydraulic lifters.

Wow, that’s a surprise to me. Is there anything additional I should know about the engine? It’s in a 1953 GMC. I appreciate the great info you guys have provided

How long have you had that engine in your GMC?

Have you (or a shop) ever adjusted the valves?
What adjustment technique did you/they use?

Chevrolet used the capital letter"eye" as number "one" in their serial numbers.
