I just bought some headers for my 250 from ftyler. Now to install them. I have read somewhere that you should replace the alignment pins that are in the front and back of the head with actual bolts or studs.

Is this necessary to get a good seal?

What is the process and recommended bolt/stud?

Thanks!

i have heard that too it is logical, you would need to have pressure at both locations since the headers are two pieces instead of 1 long ex manifold. i am using the shortest 3/8 nc manifold grade stud i could find. the longer ones seem to be in the way.

Does the old alignment pin screw out?

The pins are just 3/8" bolts turned down. Yes they unscrew, but there is coolant behind them! You need to use thread seal on the new bolts, atleast on one of my heads I did. I would all so use plenty of high heat sealer on the gasket, both sides and tighten the bolts alittle at a time working across the header flange. Joe
