I am trying to locate a new fuel pump, which appears to be a Airtex 531, but can't seem to find one available anywhere. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

My bet is your pump failed because of ethanol-laced gas. What you'll get from "Then and Now" to rebuild it will be ethanol resistant. I'll also bet if you buy a new Airtex pump it has a really good chance of failing for the same reason. Around 2014~2015 Airtex sent all pump mfg to China and Mexico. Good luck!

The parts store lists a replacement for my truck, but the pump arm that contacts the cam lobe goes down instead of up. Does anyone know if this will still work? If you're wanting to continue with a mechanical pump, this might be a better alternative. I can not tell you where the Carter pumps are made for certain, but on other forums people believe they're made in China. And those may not have any resistance to ethanol blended gas. If you'd be interested in changing to an electric pump, I can tell you the one I've used for over 20 years with good luck. It is made in China, but most of them are and this one doesn't mind ethanol in the gas.

He was stopped on the street and was taking his new fuel pump off. He opened it up and found a check valve that had been put in backwards. After flipping the check valve, he drove right off. That was the first I knew that you can dismantle and repair a fuel pump.
1948 3/4-Ton 5-Window Flatbed Chevrolet 34 Years. Now with a '61 261, 848 head, Rochester Monojet carb, SM420 4-speed, 4.10 rear, dual reservoir MC, Bendix up front, 235/85R16 tires, 12-volt w/alternator, electric wipers and a modern radio in the glove box.
