Please forgive my ignorance on this, would I be able to swap the diff gear set from a '54 sedan with my '53 3100 or are they two different animals?

Hy magfarm51, bad news, those two differentials are not interchangeable.

Jim Merritt wrote an interesting Tech Tip about swapping 50-54 PG car axle in a 46-54 3100 truck.

https://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/torque_tube_swap.htm

Trouble is those PG axles from that time are getting pretty scarce.

It’s just a thought.

EDIT: I just caught my mistake. Jim's Tip is for 1946 and Older. Not for 46 and later. I am sorry for any trouble caused! Thanks.

3B, is there anything about the two that will interchange. For instance, can you insert/mount the car differential and torque tube into the 3100 axle housing? If so, will the 3100 axles go into the differential gears?

Probably not, that would be too easy.

Thanks for any/all responses.

Hy Frank50 and guys, I have no personal knowledge of the interchangeability of parts between the two differentials we're discussing here, that would require a lot of research. I do know that those two differentials are not interchangeable
