How must i turn the key to Start the engine? To the right or to the left?

If the car you are working on is a Chevy, normally, you turn the key to the right. Usually the first click is a click to activate the ignition coil, then a momentary click further to the right "starts" the car.
A turn to the left, rather than right, initiates the "Accessory" feature (if the car has one).

to the right is on,

'37 GMC T-18 w/ DD 4-53T, RTO-610, 6231 aux., '95 GMC running gear, full disc brakes, power steering, 22.5 wheels and tires.
'47 GMC 1 ton w/ 302, NP-540, 4wd, full width Blazer front axle.
'54 GMC 630 w/ 503 gasser, 5 speed, ex fire truck, shortened WB 4', install 8' bed.
'55 GMC 370 w/270, 420 4 speed, grain, dump bed truck from ND. Works OK.
| | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 1,904 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2001 Posts: 1,904 | I assume your '53 is the same as my '48. Like Pre-68 Dave said, key straight up and down is "On." To the left (key turned counterclockwise) is "Off" and locked when the key is removed.
To the right (key turned clockwise) is also "Off" but the switch can be turned back on without the key. This position could be for the farmers who did know who would be driving the truck next.
