Bolters:
I was cleaning up the original 4 speed rock crusher from Iron Annie my 52-3604, After removing the side cover and PTO I noticed that one of the gears has a chipped tooth. My questions are as follows:
1. Should I repair the gearbox or replace it?
2. If I should repair it where can I get a
replacement gear? If I replace it with an
original what should I expect to pay for one?
3. I've got a BW T5 out of an Astro van that had
a 4.3 liter V6 and mechanical speeometer. The
input shaft aand bearing support are trimmed
to fit my 261. Should be an easy swap.
4. We've replaced the original ring and pinion
with a 3.90:1 from Randy's sooooo
a)What will the final drive ratio be with the
4 speed?
b)What will the final drive ratio be with the
5 speed?
Any assistance/advice would be appreciated.

My sanity has never been questioned, moreover, it has never been mentioned!!!!

1. If it's on one of the straight cut sliding gears install it and don't worry about it, it happens when you don't come to a full stop before shifting into 1st/reverse. If it's a helical cut gear that may be a problem. Just change the oil and use it.

2. It's usually easier to find another transmission in good shape than it is to fix.

3. The worst part is just worrying about the shifter location.

4a. 3.90:1
4b. 3.90:1*whatever your overdrive gear ratio is (probably 0.7?)

DUH, Now that I think about it, I guess the question about the final drive ratio on the 4 speed was pretty dumb. Thanks for the fast reply.
