If it's on one of the straight cut sliding gears install it and don't worry about it, it happens when you don't come to a full stop before shifting into 1st/reverse. If it's a helical cut gear that may be a problem. Just change the oil and use it.
2. It's usually easier to find another transmission in good shape than it is to fix.
3. The worst part is just worrying about the shifter location.
4a. 3.90:1 4b. 3.90:1*whatever your overdrive gear ratio is (probably 0.7?)
