It looks like it is more rectangular than the GM's but could one just redrill on center or are there other issues? Thanks for the help, Cosmo.

Doing a through cleaning inside and out I noticed a small logo on the bottom of the windshield glass. It stated "FOMOCO". Yes I must admit that I was scared at first, but 10 years or more later the truck hasn't fallen apart or anything.
Of course now my daily driver is an 98 F150 and the other day I would have bought a sweet little 31 model A pickup had I the cash ....
Maybe their is some weird voodoo in there ....
Don't worry, a head check and a few meds later and I'm back to focusing on my one and only Chevy.
As to the parts working together? I'm sure with the right machining you can get anything to work with anything these days. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 1,317 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 1,317 | The center sector of the FoMoCo T5 shifter will fit in the GM T5 shifter housing. I am running this combo in my 54 truck. However, the FoMoCo housing is too large. You'll have to pop out your old S10 center and stick in the new one. The advantage of running this combo is that the FoMoCo has provisions for BOLTING on the stick of your choice and have it rubber shock-mounted. The GM S10 shifter depends on the rubber insulator inside the S10 shifter rod. If you don't run a rubber isolator you may be bothered by some annoying vibrations that transmit up the stick. Secondly, you can pop off the stick to get your bend angles perfect without having to remove the housing itself. I cut off the front lock ear from the GM unit...swapped in the entire center assembly and tacked the front. I have some pics in my album. Hope this helps. Thanks for the info. I've been wondering about that. A mechanic who helps me with my Chevy hotrods Ford trucks. Thankfully for me since I like stock Chevy's. I did notice that the cab was similar though. Is it in the realm of possibility that the same glass fits Ford and Chevy?
Don't mean to change the thread Cosmo, just a curious thing.
Maybe Fords and Chevys can learn to live together?

The going price for the FoMoCo shift units is about $10. down here. Probably should be the same for an S10 unit. Just a suggestion...if you haven't gotten the driveshaft you might be able to double score. You'll need the yoke for the GM T5 and I found the S10 2.8L driveshaft to be a "drop-in" for my 54 with the Camaro diff.centered in the wheelwell. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 1,425 ODSS President | | ODSS President Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 1,425 | FLA54 that is darn good info. What should I expect to pay for an S-10 shifter?

Guess it's because of the popularity of the GM T5's in conversions. I got my FoMoCo shifter out of a WC Mustang GT T5. If you can locate an S10 driveshaft you'll maybe be able to strike a deal on the whole works. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,733 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,733 | "will a F*%d part work on a Chevy"

About the ford stuff on a Chevy, I have had good luck with many different parts from ford while converting my 48 to diesel. Although sometimes you have to turn things upside down or inside out to get them to work properly. Take my rear motor mounts for example, they are both upside down and inside out to work on my Detroit. I have also used the booster and master cylinder from a new ford diesel. And some other small things too. When you are trying to make something work that was not designed to work like you want it you must consider all your options for parts, and sometimes that other company has just the thing that works...

However, a guy who wouldn't use a FoMoCo 9" diff in his hot rod because of it's logo, or a SBC in his 32 5 window Ford because of it's logo, is missing out on the true spirit of our hobby. Granted, I like to see Chevy's powered by GM's and Ford's by Fords, but there are a miriad of reasons to use what works...and works well. Same goes for our old "Stovebolt" trucks. Tucking in a SBC in one of our "period" trucks is a whole lot easier (and cheaper) than resurrecting a 50 year old heavyweight hunk of low tech iron. I'm not jumping on the bandwagon nor am I throwing stones at those that do. The point I'm trying to make is, that if you are so insecure in your own skin that you can't look beyond the label, you might be short-changing yourself. We all have our favorites, and our opinions, but to banter and fuss over what logo a product wears, is too me, a bit foolish. The key is to make our machines better, safer, and more user friendly, and if I have to "cross the lines" to get the job done....so be it! If this bothers someone....it's their problem, not mine!! BTW...I love my Buick, my 54 Chevy truck, 64 Ford hot rod truck, my 2 other Ford trucks, my 2 Jeeps as well as my 2 Kubota tractors all equally!!!! I'm proud of them all!!! I also like to laugh at the Ford guys who stick a 350 in their rod but they are ford guys...or the Chevy guy who put a mustang II front end and a ford 9" rear in and are Chevy guys.

If I was a into rodding my truck who knows? A 440 six-pack would be fun to show off. Also a dual holly 454 olds engine would be fun if I could put enough weight in the back to keep it from tipping forward too much.
What matters to me in the end is am I happy with what I've done with my truck. If so, then I'll call it a day. Yes I am pretty much a stock guy when it comes to vehicles and I have to say that my 98 F150 is a hell of a driver. 110k miles no major issues and I've put one set of brakes,d one new clutch and a new alternator. Okay, I'm on my third set of tires and the alternator is a AC / Delco, but then I've done a few too many AZ backroads.
Anyway, as much as I love my Chevy, if I had to put an alien part in it to solve my goals, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
However in a final thought, that is what makes this such a great hobby. I love the fact that we can all make our own decisions when it comes to the end of the day and all have some great stories to tell for it.

It was required by inspection law. This is quite a revelation. I guess that means that all of our Chevies from that period have a little Ford in them afterall. I think this would be earthshattering news to some. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | yes, it'd be earth shattering news .... FOMOCO wasn't the 'universal' glass maker, Libby Owens Ford was, and LOF was the logo on the automotive safety glass they made .... and the "Ford" in that glass group wasn't Henry it was the Edward Ford Plate Glass Company, which joined up with the Libbey-Owens Glass Company ... LOF invented laminated safety glass in 1927 [tho PPG makes the same claim], and supplied automakers - they also started making thermal glass panels in 1946 [too bad it took so long for thermal to be widely used!] - in 1985 Libbey-Owens-Ford was acquired by Pilkington Ltd, tho it's still the LOF division .... they still make glass products for GM Bill | | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 184 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 184 | Okay, 'splain me this then. How is that I have FOMOCO glass in my 39? Was the glass the same size as the Ford? I am correct in understanding that FOMOCO stands for Ford Motor Company - correct?
The interesting thing about tempered glass is that it has to be ordered in the proper size and cannot be cut to fit. At least that's how I understand it. I had a building project where I specified 10'x4'x1" tempered clear and it had to be replaced three times due to the mill marks. Couldn't sand them out or cut them down. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | can't splain, but I know Henry mostly refused to use any unique product from outside suppliers unless they let him "buy the rights", so maybe there was a FoMoCo glass division that made the flat glass [yes it does mean Ford Motor Company] some glass logos , usually included a date code - I've never noticed any Chevy glass with the FoMoCo logo, but I'll ask a buddy who's very expert on old Chevs [nicknamed "Mr 39" actually ] yes, tempered glass has to be first cut to size then tempered [heated and annealed] ... but oddly enough after tempering it's easier to scratch than before | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 1,425 ODSS President | | ODSS President Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 1,425 | Well, all but a couple of you actually answered my post, most of you strayed from the original question. The answer is yes, a ford T-5 shifter can be made to fit on a GM T-5 tranny. The attachment plates are two totally different sizes but the mechanism is the same. Solution seems to be to cut the plate and redrill the holes. I can take pictures if anyone is really interested.

What gripes ME is using belly-button methods and calling it custom. When I get my issue of "Rod & Custom" and check out the cars featured,I rarely even look at the tech sheets, cuz you could use a form letter to describe 'em.
