Hello all,

I am working on a 1954 Chevy 3600. She is running and now needs some cosmetic work.

When I’m out driving at speed both vent windows will close. I want to increase the tension so they will stay open but I’m not sure how. I can get a socket on the nut under the pivot rod (I’m making up my own names as I go along) but tightening it seems to have no effect. I felt around and got some light in there as best I could but I don’t see a compression spring or any room for one. I could be wrong of course. I’m hoping someone can shed some light here for me. I may need to disassemble and pull out of the door to figure it out but I’m hoping to avoid it.

I appreciate any advice you can provide.

Thank you!

roaburto,

There should be a spring under the nut/washer on the bottom of the pivot rod, as you call it. Tightening this nut compresses the spring and tightens the vent window. I don't have a photo of it but I can take one if you need it. Good luck!

I have a 54 3100 and my answer would have been new vent but I would like to trpair mine but it really needs to be replaced. Leaks and it is starting to delaminate. Good luck, they are not cheap.

I’m trying to avoid replacement too. I haven’t been out in the rain so I’m not sure if they leak or not. Thanks for the response.

Hello I am currently redoing my windows and frames. And yes there is a spring with a nut and 2 different washers on that spring assembly ALSO the nut has a lock plate above nut and 2 tabs bent over flats on the nut to keep nut from turning when you dont want it too.Tabs need straitened before nut will turn would be helpful to take picture of location of spring and washers before dissamble . you tube has some helpful videos good luck

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I’ll take a closer look this weekend. 👍
