Looking to put new rims on my 49. It has an 1970 ish rear end, the hub size is 3" the rims are 72.6 mm or 2.85 inches. considering turning hub on the lathe. has anyone experienced this or have a better solution. don't really want to hog out the rims. thanks

Have to pull the axle to turn down end, look for proper rims, or turn the wheels on a lathe.

A suggestion; it is very easy to turn one down on a lathe but LEAVE THE THICKNESS of the brake drum the original size on the axle pilot (hub). You really don't need a "floating" brake drum that is only positioned by often not too tight fitting (to the brake drum) wheel lug bolts.

ISTM that the best solution would be to identify the rear end. Once you what the donor was, buy wheels that fit.
