The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Driveline 14 Bolt Rear End

So finally go the correct 3.73 14 bolt with the correct WMS for my 52 Chevy 3600. Also converted to disc brakes on the rear. However, as I step back and look once more before welding the spring perches, I notice the wheels don't look like they are properly centered in the fenders. Left side has a larger space than right. Also looking down from the top, the drive shaft appears to be making a compound angle towards the passenger side. I know the 14 bolt has a offset pinion. I have taken several measurements across the front to rear and the frame appears to be square and front and rear wheels line up correctly. I can correct this by moving the axle toward the driver side. That will put more space between the driver side leaf perch to the brake mounting flange than the passenger side. The overall distance between perched will still be the correct 41.5". So should there be equal spacing between each leaf perch and the mounting flange?

I centered mine measuring off the frame rails. Mine is a 3800 flat bed but the same should apply to yours I would think.

The original eaton had the spring perches equally spaced from the center line of the pinion. I need to move the perches over by half inch to get the same measurement on the 14 bolt, therefore the spring perches will still be 41.5 inches apart but not equally spaced from the WMS or rotor or whatever point on the outer end of the axle you measure from.

I would center the axle based on your wheels and their relation to your frame, not the pinion

Best to measure from frame to center, tin fenders are not a reliable place to measure from.
