For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2006 Posts: 13 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2006 Posts: 13 | I wanna install a new suspension in my truck. I'll start with the front. I've been looking at ChevyDuty (or whatever they're called now-a-days). I've been trying to decide between the Deluxe Mustang II front end or the Superride front end. I'm leaning towards the superride due to the dropped spindals and adjustment options but I'm a little concerned with the ride height. Does anyone know how low the front end will be after installation or have any positive or negative experience with either of these front ends?
Thanks Robert 59 Chevy 3200, Longbed Fleetside

I have a 56TF and just this week ordered a Heidt's Deluxe MII IFS from CPP off Ebay. I ordered the stock spindles because I wanted to keep my truck realtively stock height. The stock spindles drop the truck about 2 inches. For me that's acceptable.
My research found that most IFS units drop the truck about 4 -6 inches. More than I was looking for.
Hope that helps. Good luck Todd "post pictures !" Some people are like Slinkies, Their not really good for nothing... It wont work on my 51 because my frame is to narrow but works great on yours just a ideal Todd Some people are like Slinkies, Their not really good for nothing... I don't think the Superride comes with anything but dropped spindles so it loks like I'll be going with the Mustang II and stock spindles. Thanks for the help you guys. pics: http://new.photos.yahoo.com/johnwaynejeep/album/576460762320128076

I am not trying to badmouth these companies that offer Mustang II's but I want to make all aware that there have been some catastrophic failures with them. The top spring perch of some of these has failed, meaning the spring itself has pushed right through the perch, causing complete suspension failure.
There are some message threads about this, even here on stovebolt. I do remember another member here (dakota something or other) who offers a kit which is much more heavy duty steel, but he also wrote up his recommendations on fortifying the spring perch (involved welding some additional steel washers/plates on top).
Again, not trying to bad mouth, and the debate will always rage on as to whether to clip it or Mustang it, but just wanted to make some of you aware of what can happen. Please have an experienced chassis builder review your set up before you paint/reassemble. | | |
