Excellent advice from Ron - check with KC Mongo and maybe try a trade-in. My guess is that a trade-in would be no less than $!00 (and, maybe up to $200)?
I'm really pleased with my setup. A modern AM/FM radio ($70) sits in the glove box with just the original radio face in the original hole. It has a remote that I can leave on the seat but I really don't use it. You don't want to mess with tuning, etc. while moving! Do they make voice actuated radios? I'm running 12-volts.
Notice the knob bezels on the old radio. .

34 Years. Now with a '61 261, 848 head, Rochester Monojet carb, SM420 4-speed, 4.10 rear, dual reservoir MC, Bendix up front, 235/85R16 tires, 12-volt w/alternator, electric wipers and a modern radio in the glove box.
There is a radio guy in Pennsylvania that I just sent my 1954 radio and speaker combo unit to. His claim; remove my radio guts and install am/fm guts, new speaker (same speaker mount) provision to connect two more speakers, provision to plug in an ipod/iPhone for my own music. When installed radio will be my old face with am numbers only, no hint of fm visible. He also restores and fixes the old am unit if I had wanted that. I will be glad to update when I get it back, he says 6 weeks. If this turns out the way I envision it, I will be a happy camper.
