Im helping a guy undo a hack job, need to get back to original, but i cannot find a repair manual that deals with the specifics of a COE, of which we are discovering are many, compared to the other big trucks. need transmission linkage diagrams, updraft carb manuals, and at this point, not entirely certain what else. so much is so similar, but that which is different is different enough to really be a problem. much thanks in advance.
we have the linkages, what we dont have are the factory diagrams as to how these things go together. my biggest problem is not being able to find that factory manuals for repair/rebuild on these coe trucks.
Here are two photos together showing the shifter linkage in my 50 COE. The first one shows the short tranny shifter installed in the shift tower, with the unique t-shaped connector. The second shows the linkage as it attaches to the engine cover and articulates back through the denim boot, to attach to the t-shaped connector beneath. I hope this helps, Kent
Regarding manuals, carb and trans linkage unique to the COE are actually pretty well covered. In the Chevrolet Truck Shop Manual 1948-51, look on page 6-65 for the beginning of the updraft carb section. This manual is online at Old Online Chevy Manuals, a site run by Keith Hardy. Regarding trans linkage and many other things get a copy of the 1947-1954 Truck Factory Assembly Manual (often referred to as FAM). For example Sect. 7 Sheet 2.03 is a diagram showing the linkage I photographed above. As you look through the FAM, look on the lower right of each sheet for the model. You are looking for Model 5000, since you either have a 5100 or 5700. Lots of info here about pedal mounting, etc, that is unique to the COE. Good luck, Kent
Hey, I have that same set up. The problem I am having is the shift adapter that mounts to the floor. I think I may be missing a retaining clip or something. The new shift position keeps popping out of its socket.
