Well, I have finally gotten around to the project of replacing the cracked windshield on my old 49 Chevy. It looks as if the last person that installed a windshield on this truck applied too much pressure in the center when re-attaching the outside visor to the center trim and it cracked both pieces of glass. I have new glass and new rubber to go in. I've watched tons of YouTube videos and I'm hopeful I can do this without too much difficulty. I have my rope, my ballend tool, and sealant. I've got the old windshield out and prepped the metal on the truck with rust prohibitor. Hopefully, all goes well. Wish me luck.

Darrell

Just take your time. You'll want another pair of hands to set the glass in the opening, they like to flip flop. It ain't rocket science. I can't walk and chew gum, but I can put glass in! John

That’s a nice colour of paint. Looks sharp. Good luck! If I can do it, so can you.

Prayers sent. smile
Fortunately I have a local glass gut who knows how to work these windshields into place. I cannot bring myself to watch him due to the giant gold wedding band on his banging hand. Yes, there is a lot of banging involved to slide the glass where it needs to go.

Well, I got it in yesterday. Holy cow, that was a tough job. I hope I never have to do that again. Watched a lot of YouTube videos to get prepared and it definitely helped. Glass looks so much better than the cracked mess that was in there before. Posted a couple of pics of the finished product.

What did you use for rubber? The lower corners look great (that's usually the hard part).

I used the rubber gasket from classicparts. It was a challenge, but I kept working it with the ball end hook tool and pushing down on the glass until it came down good. At first, it wanted to curl under in the lower corners.
