I have a Schiefer aluminum flywheel in my 37 pick up and just recently installed a T-5 with an Astro clutch. I pulled the flywheel cover just to look at things and I have a dusting of aluminum all around the inside of the flywheel cover. It's like the clutch is grinding away the flywheel! This is something I'm not familiar with! Does anyone have an idea what is going on here?   :confused: Joe

It is quite possible the clutch is doing what you say. If you do a search on Schiefer flywheels, it mentions how the area in contact with the clutch disc was sprayed with a metal/bronze coating.
Without some durable overlay, I think the aluminum flywheel would be toast in a few miles.

I never had the dusting of aluminum with that first clutch. The new one is a 9 7/8". I don't see how that could make any difference, but something has changed. I have checked everything and I see no eveidence of anything scraping or scratching the flywheel. :confused: Joe

It appears that I used the wrong clutch disc when I converted to the T-5 transmission. Instead of using the RC4212 11" disc, I used the RC4201 9 7/8" disc. In so doing, the current disc is not large enough to work the insert of the aluminum flywheel and is working on the inner area of aluminum only. Within the next few weeks, this will be confirmed, but it is almost certain that is what is happening.
