I'm looking to mount a passenger side outside mirror to my '48 GMC. Can anyone please share pictures of your setup possibly with approximate measurements for drilling.
Take a little tippity tip from me once you find the mirror bolt holes in the reinforcement bracket inside the cab. Take an automatic center punch (the kind that fires the punch when you push on the plastic handle) and place it in the center of the hole on the inside of the cab and push it enough times to make a dimple on the outside of the cab so you can drill it from the outside. Start with a small drill bit to make sure that you hit the center with the punch.

I'd really like to add side mirrors to my 49 but I hate to drill holes in the nice paint. Afraid I might mess it up.
LOL. I don't have that problem, cuz no paint yet. You'll just have to grit your teeth and follow Carl's advise. One thing I'd add is that once you can see the dimple on the outside, use the center punch from the outside to make that a depression to center the drill bit. It's too hard to keep a drill bit from wandering off if you start on top of a hill.
