A friend can bore it for me but he doesn't have a torque plate for the six. He would do it for free and he says not having a torque plate would not matter for the six. Does it matter? Getting it bored by the local shop is a little over a hundred bucks and I wouldn' mind spending it if it matters, but I can always use a hundred bucks if it doesn't. For example, I could buy some rotors for a brake conversion... Let me know what you think about the torque plate. Thanks! If you are just going to rebuild it and put it back in the sawmill I doubt that boring the engine with or without torque plates installed would make much difference one way or the other. They are a fairly new idea, many engines have run many miles bored the old fashioned way. Brian | | | | | Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 159 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 159 | FYI on torque plating .The reason torque plating is used is to simulate the head being bolted on.If for some reason the application has high cylinder bore distortion when the head is clamped to the block then they will torque plate hone.This assures the cylinder will be round when final honing process is completed.Your inline has a good cylinder wall thicknes so the chances of distortion are minimal.Now if you had 318 Dodge I recommend it.

On old flathead fords we used a plate slightly thicker than the longer studs. It was counterbored so the head nuts would screw down on the studs lower than the top surface. This gave a flat surface for the boring bar without having to pull out 42 or 48 of those #^*$@ studs that always had a few twist off.
