| | | | Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 4 Moderated | | Moderated Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 4 | I have noticed that the FLAPS have largely stopped selling conventional motor oil in everything other than 10W30...it's all semi- and full synthetic on the shelves now. One of the counter folks told me that because new cars and trucks usually mandate synthetic right from the factory, the oil producers are dropping conventional dinosaur juice from their product lines, which implies that eventually conventional 10W30 oil will disappear, too. Rebuilt engines probably have seals and gaskets made of updated materials, but are there any other pitfalls to pouring synthetic oil into our old engines? Or do I start hoarding 30-weight?

I buy it in 5-gallon pails from the local farm supply store. No oil-related problems yet.

It has extra zinc in it, and that's good for older engines. Living in Florida is the same as living in Texas...meaning the developers have made certain we'll get no winters any longer, so 30 weight will be fine for you all year long.
