I had one dropped at Mor-drop about 10-12 years ago, and wasn't very happy with it. Don't know if they are even still doing Chev. axles. There was a guy on the H.A.M.B. (loudpedal) that was talking about making a fixture to drop Chevy axles, don't know if he did. You can also buy a newly fabricated dropped '47-'54 Chev. axle from a place in PA. www.cenpen.com/truckaxles

Jeff, if you do have a '37-'46 (or later) axle dropped, I would recommend putting the money into a '41 or later axle with the larger kingpins. The '37-'40 axles have wimpy kingpins that wear out faster, and were redesigned in '41 to a larger diameter.

I had my axle dropped at mor-drop last year. They did an exchange. I sent them my totally refurbished painted axle, they sent me back a very nasty, scaly axle to refurbish for a second time. They still do chevy axles. If they have one in stock with the correct drop, they will send you one otherwise they drop yours. They are slow. Even with an exchange I think mine was gone 6 weeks.

The king pin didn't fit very well when it came back either. The hole was actually slightly smaller than original. I don't know if this is an outcome of the heating process or not. It cleaned up pretty easily and then everything was fine.

Classic Performance Products sells a tubular dropped axle that fits 47 - 54 trucks. It would fit a 1940 truck also, you just need the later hubs and kingpins to go with it.

Give Dave a call at www.roadsters.com/axles. He dropped the axle in my 48 about a year ago and did a great job. I think it took less than two weeks from the time it left my door to the time it came back. I had originally ordered an axle from CENPEN but after waiting months for it and unanswered phone calls from them, I cancelled the order.
