Truck is in very good shape.
New 350 engine
New interior
Body 99% perfect
Needs new tires and wheels
Brakes all new
Needs new wooden floor in bed
Needs gas tank under bed.

Truck runs excellent.

Here ya go!

3B = 3200 1/2 ton Long Bed (123" wheel base)
57 = year
B = Baltimore Plant
109239 = unit number starting with 100001, making it the 9,239th unit built in Baltimore

Prefix could be the number of previous owners. Call the DMV.

You are wanting to know whether it came with a 283 V8 or 235 six? I'm sure the answer is in the archives somewhere here on the "Bolt".

This might help.

Vehicle Information Kits

1957 Chevrolet truck info kit

The 350 is not the original engine.

The vehicle serial number (3B 57B 109239) 3B would have a "V" added if the truck came with a V8 engine.

There were only two engines available for your 3200...the 235 6-cylinder and the optional 265 V8. The 261, 283 and 322 were all big truck engines in 1957. Since your Serial Number doesn't have a "V" prefix, it was not born with a V8 engine, so it had the 235. The front cross member V8 motor mount brackets were riveted on at the factory and the aftermarket brackets are bolted on, another way to tell if it was born a V8...

The 3 on the tree 3-speed was the standard issue trans with the HD 3-speed (with floor shifter) and the Hydromatic as options. Look at the floor board just above the steering column and see if there is a hole in the floor that the column linkage went through...if there's a hole it was born with a 3 on the tree or the Hydromatic. Now look to see if it had a clutch pedal hole...if both of these are yes, than it had the standard 3-speed.
