Guys-I'd like to play with the mechanical advance in my OEM points type dist. I see kits for sale, all say for HEI & none say for 6 cyl. Can someone give me a name & part # that'll work? Thanks in advance, Doug

I can't think that I've ever seen any for sale. Have you tried checking with an automotive eclectrical shop, one that has been around foe a while. Why not HEI.

I'm not sure what you are looking for, but this may help you. The Corvair used the same basic distributor as the 250/292. The housing is the same casting, but the bottom is machined a little different and has only one bushing. Your 292 has two bushings and a much shorter shaft and different gear than the Corvair. Cap, rotor, points, point plate are all the same.
Clark's Corvair in Mass has a large assortment of springs, weights and cams for different years and applications.
Look on page #78 of their online catalog.

This chart shows the mechanical as well as vacuum specs. Find something you like and match up the pieces. The 140 HP has the most performance curve of the lot. 18@2800, starting at 800.

Richard-this is exactly what I'm looking for-thanks. My problem is with the 10% ethanol gas we now have. My motor which ran OK before suddenly lost a lot of power.I went up .003" in main jet size, no change, raised the metering rod a bit, no change. Started giving it a bit more ign. advance, that helped. Got it up to where it pulled good thru the whole RPM range but by then it was so far adv. that it was a bit rough at idle & would sometimes kick back against the starter on a hot restart so I backed it off a bit for a happy medium. I'd like to get more mech. adv. & use less initial adv. With these springs & weights I'm sure I can do that. Doug

Don't forget the pin under the one side of the cam. Sometimes it has a bushing on it that limits the travel and therefore the total mechanical advance. The after market sold plastic bushings, but I've seen metal sleeves that looked factory.
